Twenty Years of Sociology in Mainland China: Retrospect and Prospect

In the recent two decades,sociology experienced a period of flourish development in Mainland China.Fruitful achievements had been gained in the areas of theoretical and empirical researches,qualitative and quantitative analyses,general and specific sociology,as well as sociological indigenization.Facing the new century,the author suggests that emphasis should be attached to the following issues:establishing academic norms,perfecting the construction of academic system,enhancing researches and teaching in urban sociology,sociology of economics,sociology of organization and sociological research methods.The author also proposes that more applied sociologists be nurtured in areas of social survey,community administration,social security,social work and social policy.High level sociological researchers should be trained,too.
