Clinical effect of phacoemulsification on patients with complicated cataract after trabeculectomy

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of phacoemulsification combined with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation on cataract after trabeculectomy.Methods Twenty-one patients(22 eyes)with cataract after trabeculectomy(experimental group)were exerted with phacoemulcification combined with posterior chamber intra-ocular lens implantation.Fifty patients with senile cataract received the same operation and were chosen randomly as the control group.All individuals were followed up for 1 month to 1 year.The pre-and postoperative visual acuity,endothe-lial cells,anterior chamber depth,anterior chamber angle width and intraocular pressure(IOP)was observed.Results The visual acuity improved in all eyes after the operation.The IOPs in 22 eyes were all controlled to normal,with no significant difference compared with those in the control group(P0.05).The endothelium cell loss was 320±84/mm2 in the experimental group and 338±78/mm2 in the control group,with no significant difference between them(P0.05).The anterior chamber was significantly deepened after the operation with the average depth increasing from(2.14±0.10)mm to(3.30±0.28)mm(P0.05).The anterior chamber angle was widened significantly.Conclusions Phacoeniulsification combined with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation could be safe and effective for patients with cataract after trabeculectomy.
