The Position and Role of Athletics in School Physical Education

For recent years,school physical education and athletics have been attracting the attention of many scholars and becoming a craze of academic researches.In the field of sports thories,physical education,in its broad sense,has long since been regarded composed of 3 parts:physical education in the narrow sense(school physical education),athletic sports(athletics) and physical exercises and recreation(mass sports activities).However,with the quick development of athletic sports in modern societies,people begin to think about some realistic problems about it:what is athletics? whether or not should athletics be allowed to enter school physical education? What is the position and role of it in school physical esucation? The development of school physical education has an urgent need for the answers to the above question so as to clear up some misundrestandings and accept new challenges of the Zist century.
