Investigation on professional training demands of nursing staff in intensive care unit

Objective To investigate the professional training demands of nursing staff in intensive care unit(ICU),to improve their professional ability and operating skills,and to provide a reference basis for setting up curriculum of professional training and continuing education.Methods From January to February 2011,the demands for professional training of 130 nurses in ICU from a grade A tertiary general hospital in Shanghai were investigated by self-designed questionnaire.Results The professional training for nurses was lack before working in ICU;the training in ICU for them was not systematic and not multi-level;the demands for comprehensive ability and specialized skill training were higher;the extents of training demands differed among nurses with different working years in ICU.Conclusion The high-quality,multi-level and comprehensive professional training for nurses in ICU is especially important,and a professional training system should be established as soon as possible.
