Abstract
Objective To know the present situation of parents' cognizance about children's passive smoking in Liyang community,and to provide evidence for making related strategies.Methods Parents in Liyang community were surveyed by using a questionnaire which was designed according to the core questionnaire for the baseline investigation of controlling children's passive smoking used by Ministry of Health and WHO.Results About 71.2% of the parents thought passive smoking did great harm to children and 71.8% had taught their children how to avoid passive smoking.66.4% agreed they could play a main role of protecting the children from passive smoking,while 56.0% considered it was their responsibility of avoiding children's passive smoking.33.3% of the parents had made the request for no smoking in front of their children.Parents' gender,education level,their endurance of passive smoking and attitudes about children's passive smoking were the relative factors of their capability of protecting their children from passive smoking.Conclusions Most parents in Liyang community have cognition about the harm of passive smoking to children.But they protected the children from passive smoking weakly.Therefore integrative intervention measures should be carried out to strengthen parents' sense of responsibility and protection awareness as well as their ability to prevent children from passive smoking.
