Abstract
The chromogenic reaction between tribromoarsenazo and barium was studied as well as the influences of coexistent ions on the reaction. The results show that barium reacts with the chromogenic reagent in 0.3 mol/L H3PO4 solution to form a stable purple complex, which exhibits an absorption maximum at 618 nm with an apparent molar absorptivity of 3.90×104 L/(mol cm).Beer's law is obeyed with the barium content of 0~40 μg/25 mL.The chromogenic reaction is of high sensitivity and the spectrophotometry can be used to determine the barium content of Si-Ca-Ba alloy. The determined results are in agreement with the certified values, and the relative standard deviation(RSD) is less than 2%.
