From Dependence to the Enlightenment of Autonomy ——How Does the Studies for Chinese Philosophy Return to Itself?

Abstract

Within the recent hundred years, a historical shift took place in the studies Chinese philosophy, from Wu-Liang Xie’ A History for Chinese Philosophy, to Shi Hu’ An Outline of Chinese Philosophy, by the form of the history of Chinese Philosophy to western philosophy in China, which is ultimate by You-Lan Feng’ A History of Chinese Philosophy. His research depends upon the categories of Western philosophy, and then selects materials from Chinese classics, fills them into the categories, It is to cut out the special philosophical modes of China by the means of Western philosophical mode. Consequently, the subjectivity of Chinese philosophy vanished. The history of Chinese philosophy turned out to be a history of discovering Western philosophy in China. This deprived a deep crisis of the legitimacy of Chinese philosophy. Therefore, the history of Chinese philosophy must shift from dependence toward the enlightemnent of autonomy, from primordial research of discovering Western philosophy in China to Chinese philosophy, ad hoc, the studies of the process of the immanent and logical views of Chinese philosophy.
