Abstract
As a verb-complement phrase,Shuobuzhunhas been grammaticalized into a modal adverb.From the view of syntactic context in whichshuobuzhungrammaticalized,the grammaticalization ofshuobuzhunis an epiphenomenon of the grammaticalization of biclausal construction(S)+ Shuobuzhun + complement clause.Basic cognitive experience that event develops through time,semantic of subjective initiative ofshuobuzhun,being background information in discourses are the main causes of grammaticalization of this construction.
