Abstract

Silt and silty sand layers within a depth of 15m under the dam foundation can be easily liquefied when earthquake happens, which directly threaten the stability of the dam.In this paper, the liquefaction evaluation of silt and silty sand was made according to the results of the standard penetration tests(SPT) in-situ and dynamic tri-axial tests indoor;the results of them were also compared. At the same time,on the basis of liquefaction evaluation, the non-linear dynamic FEM analysis of dam foundation using effective stress method was performed with or without taking seepage effect into account. The results of liquefaction evaluation were compared with those of the dynamic tri-axial tests indoor and in-situ.Some useful conclusions were provided as references for similar projects.
