Abstract

Objective To investigate the anesthetic effect of propofol in combination with ketamine in dog surgical experiments.Methods Thirteen healthy dogs were included in the present study,males and females together.0.5 mg atropine and 10 mg morphine were administered intramuscularly 30 min before the experiment.Tracheal intubation,5 mg/kg propofol adopted i.v.at the first time,and the maintenance dose was 1 mg/kg.50 mg katamine administered i.v.before the operation.Results The combined anesthetic reaction time was 40 sec in average.The first injection lasted 17.3 min in average and following injections 13.6 min.None dog died.Propofol had stronger anesthetic effect with a shorter induction time,rapid reaction time,rapid and smooth resuscitation and less adverse effects.Conclusion The propofol combined with katamine anesthesia appears to be a satisfactory method for dogs during surgical operation.
