Abstract
The politeness principle is an important part in pragmatics study. In order to achieve good results in interaction, people should follow not only the cooperation principle but also the politeness principle. This article analyzes the conversation in a text in College English (Completely New Edition) to illustrate the application of the politeness principle in interaction. It also gives a brief account of the different politeness criteria in various cultures.
