Abstract

Objective To explore the protective value of erythropoietin(EPO) for acute ischemic stroke patients. Methods Acute ischemic stroke was diagnosed according to the evidence of MRI.We adopted the double-blind control trial to study the EPO group and the control group. The EPO group accepted the injection of EPO within onset 8 hours, and the control group accepted the normal saline. We had the NIHSS score for two group patients with acute ischemic stoke by National Institutes of Health stroke scale score(NIHSS Score),and infarct size of different time point were measured by the diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI).Results The NIHSS score for EPO group were lower than the control group on the admission 3 weeks and 4 weeks [(8.5±1.8)VS.(10.4±2.2),P0.05]、[(8.4±1.9)VS.(10.2±2.2),P0.05].The infarct sizes of two groups on admission 4 weeks had statistically significant differences[(49.67±4.52)VS.(72.44±9.22)cm2,P0.01].Conclusion The early application of EPO could significantly promote the nerves functional recovery of the acute ischemic stroke patients.
