Abstract

The Kaili formation in Eastern Guizhou,China is mainly made up of silty mudstone and shales abundant in trilobites.Kaili formation, located at Wuliu Zengjiayan section of Balang,Taijiang county,as a candidate section of GSSP for Lower Middle Cambrian boundary,is famous for its Middle Cambrian Kaili biota and Lower Cambrian Taijiang biota. This paper conducts a study on the lithostratigraphic, biostratigraphic and chronstratigraphic characteristics and sedimentary environments of Kaili formation, and draws a conclusion that Kaili formation is an important stratigraphic unit because of its scientific and practical significance.
