Abstract
The spirit of humanism can be found in Shakespeare's works (tragedy,comedy,historic play and sonnet).This essay explores respectively how humanism influenced English literature and how humanism is reflected in Shakespeare's works,including his tragedy,comedy and sonnet.Furthermore it points out the essence of humanism and the close relationship between humanism and literature: literature is the study of humanity.Literature preserves the spiritual wealth of human beings and thus becomes the bond of human communication.The purpose of literature is to inspire people's spiritual power through various ways of representation.
