A Study of Wu Changshuo and Huang Binghong's Outlook of "Calligraphy and Painting Developing from the Same Origin"

The notion that calligraphy and painting derive from the same origin has been exerting a far-reaching influence in the history of Chinese calligraphy and painting.Even the 20th century in which a series of transforms took place is no exception.Many painters exemplify this idea anew based on their own artistic practices,among whom Wu Changshuo and Huang Binghong are main representatives.They emphasize the importance of calligraphy for painting and have carried out some meaningful theoretical studies upon which calligraphic strokes should be incorporated into painting and upon the relationship between calligraphy and painting,which inspire today's artistic practice to some extent.
