The Temporal-spatial Narrative in Tiening′s Village Novels

Abstract
What are the particular appeals of Tiening′s novels? As far as village novels are concerned,two characteristics are distinct: one is the folkness of the novels,which depicts a mimic lyric picture of villages;and the other is the modernity of the novels——in the wake of the invasion of modern time,the clamor,the change in villagers′ beliefs and their fates brought about by the modern civilization,which demonstrates the constant considerations by Tiening on modernity.The folkness and the modernity endow Tiening′s novels with not only an inherent aesthetic tension but also profound historical and cultural connotations.
