Analysis of Hidden Blood Loss in Intertrochanteric Femur Fracture Treated with Gamma3

Objective:To explore the characteristics,mechanisms and influence factors of the hidden blood loss following surgery for intertrochanteric femur fracture using the Gamma 3 intramedullary nail.Methods:Retrospectively analyzed 22 cases with intertrochanteric femur fracture which were treated with Gamma 3 intramedullary nail from Sept.2010 to Feb.2012,including 12 males and 10 females,with an average age of 74.9 years(ranging 46-92 years).All the patients were initial illness,and 24h infusion volume was not more than 2000ml.The patients of serious medical illness and autoimmunediseases were excluded.The amount of hidden blood loss was calculated by Gross formula according to the height,weight,hematocrit and hemoglobin before and after surgery.Results:The mean amount of hidden blood loss was 679.1 ml(82.8%),which was 4.8 times of the dominant blood loss.Conclusion: The Gamma 3 intramedullary nail for treatment of intertrochanteric femur fractures has a small incision and short time,but there is serious hidden blood loss,which should be attracted the attention of the clinician to prevent and treat actively.
