Community Quality of Life(QOL)and Relevant Influential Factors in the Elderly

Objective To understand the status of the elderly of Tangshan city in QOL and its main influential factors.Methods The stratified cluster random sampling was taken to investigate the citizens aged 60 and above in Tangshan urban regions about their QOL and its influential factors.Results There were significant differences in QOL scores of 4 dimensions of physiological function,physiological role,general health and social function among the elderly of different age groups(P0.05).In the older patients with diabetes mellitus,coronary heart disease,osteoarthrosis,chronic bronchitis and prostatic disease the scores of physiological function were respectively 69±24),(68±25),(68±24),(54±29),and(57±23);the scores of physical pain were respectively(72±24),(75±22),(75±22),(67±19),(and 64±17);the scores of vitality were respectively(63±18),(64±17),(64±16),(59±17),and(48±20);the scores of social function were respectively(75±23),(77±25),(77±25),and(70±24),with significant differences as compared with those in the elderly with no the diseases above-mentioned(P0.05).The scores of mental health in the elderly with spouse died and without were respectively(69±14)and(70±15)(P0.05).The scores of mental health in the elderly with children's life frustrated and without were respectively(51±8)and(54±11),and the scores of social function were respectively(73±27)and(82±23)(P0.05).The scores of physiological function in the elderly with harmonious family and without were respectively(74±23)and(61±30),and the scores of mental health were respectively(71±15)and(62±16)(P0.05).The scores of vitality in the elderly with economic difficulty and without were respectively(63±18)and(67±15),the scores of mental health were respectively(72±15)and(67±15)(P0.05).The scores of mental health in the elderly with difficulty in seeking medical care and without were respectively(64±17)and(69±14),and the scores of social function were respectively(79±22)and(84±24)(P0.01).Multiple regression analysis revealed aging,some chronic diseases,experience of negative life events and negative psychological feelings could influence the physiological and mental health of the elderly(P0.05).Conclusion Aging,some chronic diseases,experience of negative life events and negative psychological feelings could make decline of quality of life for the elderly.The society and family should concern it and set up a happy life environment for improving their quality of life.
