Abstract

The relationship between Ca2+ and other second signal molecule(ABA) in sugarcane(Saccharum officinarum L.) seedlings under drought stress was examined. It was found that endogenous ABA accumulated in sugarcane seedlings under drought stress, and the drought-induced increase of ABA content was significantly inhibited by the pretreatment of EGTA(a Ca2+ chelator). It demonstrated that the low concentration of Ca2+ in the cytoplasm might hamper the signal transduction of drought stress and finally decrease the synthesis and release of endogenous ABA,and there might be a crosstalk between the signal transduction pathways mediated by Ca2+ and ABA.
