Abstract
Objective To explore the curative effect of invasive-noninvasive sequential mechanical ventilation in the treatment of flail chest and respiratory failure. Methods Eighty patients with traumatic flail chest and respiratory failure were randomly divided into the study group and the control group. Patients in the control group were treated with invasive mechanical ventilation, while those in the study group were treated with sequential noninvasive mechanical ventilation. The blood gas index and APACHE Ⅱ score were compared between the two groups. Results The total duration of mechanical ventilation, length of stay in the ICU, incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP), APACHE Ⅱ score and blood gas indexes were significantly superior than those in the control group, with statistically significant difference (P0.05). Conclusion Sequential non-invasive mechanical ventilation can significantly improve the blood gas index, enhance clinical effect, and improve quality of life in patients with flail chest and respiratory failure.
