On the rhetorical appreciation of English and Chinese color words

Abstract

color words,as a special phenomenon,play an important role in both English and Chinese,especially for their colorful rhetorical expressions.The paper makes a detailed comparative study of Chinese and English color words from such rhetorical perspectives as description by color,figure of speech,metonymy,hyperbole,repetition,synaesthesia and symbolism,and analyzes and illustrates their rhetorical similarities in both languages.This article illustrates their rhetorical appreciation in both languages.
