"Withered Branches"and"Floating Wood":On the Relationship between Classical Art and Modern Art

Marcel Duchamp, John Cage and Andy Warhol were three dazzling stars in modern art history and exerted a revolutionary impact on traditional art. The distinction between elegance and vulgarity, art and life, and works and media is getting vague, and classical art is neglected. However, modern art does not surpass Hegel’s definition of art-perceptual manifestation of the conception. The difference between modern art and classical art lies in the conceptualization of art subject, de-technologization of artistic creation and mediatization of art works. These two art styles belong to different traditions, but they are complementary rather than contradictory. Modern perplexity is rooted in history, and we can see the eternity of art in the conclusion of the times and time-featured art.
