Expression and significance of p27 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Objective: To study the expression and clinical significance of p27 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: The expression of p27 was detected in 12 cases of normal esophageal issues and 62 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by immunohistochemistry. Results: There was a significant difference in the expressing rate of p27 between normal epithelia(100%) and esophageal carcinoma(66.7%). p27 expression was correlated with the invasion depth, pTNM stage, and differentiation degree. The difference of survival was not significant between high and low expression groups. Conclusion: A decrease of p27 expression occurs early in the carcinogenesis of esophageal carcinoma. The expression of p27 is correlated negatively with the clinicopathological parameters reflecting the malignant biological behavior,and may not prove to be a significant prognostic predictor. [
