Studies on the Integrated Control Techniques of Tomicus piniperda

Abstract

To get sustainable control of pine shoot beetle, WTTomicus piniperda, a series studies on integrated control techniques have been made, including the relation between Tomicus piniperda and Pinus yunnanensis stand, effect of tending-thinning to control beetle damage, techniques of clearing damaged woods, selection of aggregation pheromone attractants, field attraction techniques, biological and chemical control etc. Through these researches, preliminary results showed the association of Yunnan pine stand and beetle damage, and the pest development in damaged stands. Confirmation of sister broods, emergence period and population of all beetle phases in sister broods life cycle provide scientific basis for beetle control. Systematic control measures have been advanced after 4 effective attractant formulas and 2 traps were selected, and field test of attractant, forecast methods and technique of flying beetle control using Paecilomyces farinosus were studied.
