Abstract

Objective To analyze the chest CT imaging characteristics of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia(MPP) in children and guide the preliminary clinical diagnosis of MPP.Methods The chest CT scans and clinical data obtained from 64 children with MPP were retrospectively analyzed. Results ①There were 35 cases (58.6%) of male and 29 cases (41.4%) of female among the 64 patients.2 cases were under 1 years of age,14 cases 1-3 years,18 cases 4-7 years,20 cases 8-10 years and 10 cases over 10 years old.②In the 43 cases with unilateral abnormalities, there were 30 cases with abnormalities in right lung, and 13 cases with abnormalities in left one.The abnormalities in right lung were more frequent than those in left one.Multiple areas abnormalities were more than single areas. The abnormalities in right lower lobes(34.2%) were most frequent in all cases when compared with the other lobes.Secondly, the abnormalities in middle lobe of right lung(18.7%) and upper lobe of left lung(18.7%).③A large area of consolidation on CT was identified in 84.3% of the patients and other CT imaging characteristics included pleural effusion(31.2%),atelectasis(25%),hilar lymph node enlargement(15.6%) and scattered patchy consolidation.CT imaging characteristics was different in children of different ages. Conclusion The morbidity rate of MPP in older children was significantly higher than that in infant. The abnormalities in the right lung were more frequent than those in the left one.The large area of consolidation was most frequent in all cases. The characteristics of its chest CT image can provide some hints for the diagnosis of MPP.
