Abstract

Mixtures of acrylamide(AM) and acrylic acid(AA) were grafted onto starch using K2S2O8-NaHSO3 as the initiation system and the graft copolymers St-g-pAA and St-g-p(AA-co-AM) were synthesized. Effects of monomer concentration and the amount of initiator, etc. on water absorbency were investigated through the orthogonal test. Optimum conditions were obtained as well. The existence of the grafted copolymers was confirmed by IR and SEM measurements.
