Efficacy of different dosages of folic acid in the treatment of hyperhomocy steinemia

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of different dosages of folic acid in the treatment of hyperhomocysteinemia.Methods A total of 150 hyperhomocysteinemia cases were randomly divided into 3 groups with 50 in each group and treated with different dosages of folic acid.Group A,B and C received 2.5 mg/d,5 mg/d and 15 mg/d folic aicd,respectively.Homocysteine(Hcy) concentration 4 weeks before treatment,4 and 12 weeks after treatment were assessed.Results There was no difference in the Hcy concentration among the 3groups before treatment.The Hcy concentration in the 3 groups dropped after treatment,and the decrease was more significant in Group B and C than in Group A(P0.05).There was no difference between Group A and B(P0.05).Group C had poorer compliance 12 weeks after treatment.Conclusion The folic acid dosage of 5mg/d can produce satisfactory effect and compliance.
