Repellent effect of the ethanol extracts from twelve herb plants on the adults of Rhizopertha dominica and Tribolium castaneum

The repellent effect of ethanol extracts from 12 herb plants on the adults of Rhizopertha dominica(Fab.) and Tribolium castaneum Herbst was studied using dual-selection tests with filter paper immersion.Of all 12 herb plants,the extract from Cnidium monnieri showed best repellent effect on R.dominica,in which 786 μg/cm2 extract got 93% repelling rate at 24 h post-treatment.The extract from Artemisia capillaries had best repellent effect on T.castaneum,in which 393 μg/cm2 extract got 95% repelling rate at 72 h post-treatment accordingly.When stored for 7 days at 262 μg/cm2,the repellent action of the extract from A.capillaries to T.castaneum adults reached grade V.The extract from A.capillaries had certain value for further exploration because of its good repellent effect on T.castaneum.
