Abstract

The Sanzuodian reservoir is located on the Yinhe river with high sediment content and the reservoir faces severe sediment deposition problem. Violent contradiction is developing between water supply and reservoir sediment deposition. In this paper, a one-dimension unbalanced sediment transportation mathematical model is used to compute the sedimentation deposition in the reservoir. The main factors in reservoir design are considered, such as the reservoir operation mode, the dam scale, the dam site, flood discharge facilities etc. The feasibility of reducing the reservoir sedimentation by lowering the reservoir operation level and using density flow to flush sediment is studied and the sedimentation condition after 50 years of the reservoir operation is forecasted.
