Abstract
Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety evaluation of transurethral resection of prostate(TURP) in treatment of severe benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods 120 cases of patients with BPH in our hospital from January 2008 to June2013 were selected, including 48 patients with prostate volume 80- 120 ml(observation group),72 cases with prostate volume 80ml(control group),both groups were given TURP treatment.Patients were followed up for 6 months, the international prostate symptom score(IPSS),irritation symptom score, obstructive symptom score of two groups were observed, and operative time, blood loss, postoperative bladder irrigation time, catheterization time, hospital stay of two groups were recorded and compared.Count data was processed by t- test, measurement data by chi- square test,P0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Before treatment,IPSS,irritation symptom score, obstructive symptom scores of observation group were(23.7±6.5),(9.8±4.0) and(13.9±2.5);IPSS,irritation symptom score, obstructive symptom scores of after treatment were(6.8±3.2),(4.5±1.8) and(2.3±1.1).The scores of control group before treatment were(24.6±6.7),(10.3±3.5) and(14.3±3.2).The scores of control group after treatment were(7.2±3.4),(4.2±2.1) and(3.1±1.2).The scores of the two group after treatment was significantly lower than those before treatment, differences were statistically significant(all P0.05).The operative time, blood loss, prostate volume of observation group were(53.4 ±12.8)min,(285±48)ml and(51.4±11.5)g,control group were(24.6±6.7)min,(460±50)ml,(72.8±14.2)g.There were significantly differences between the two groups(all P0.05),postoperative bladder irrigation time, catheterization time, hospital stay and occurrence of postoperative urethral stricture, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infection of two groups were not significantly different(all P0.05).Conclusion The efficacy of TURP in treatment of severe BPH with large volumes is similar with mild- moderate hyperplasia of prostate worthy of application.
