Reconsideration of Adhering to the Principle of Collectivism in the New Age

In the period of reform, opening to the outisde world and socialist market economic construction, there are various vigorous trends of social ideology, and great changes have taken place in people's concept. Similarly, there appears disorder in the standards of moral evaluation. Some people dislike the advocate of collectivism; they criticize collectivism or oppose it. Some half believe collectivism. Some others even try to use the standards of individualism or utilitarianism as the standard of moral evaluation. All these trends of thought bring bad effect to the construction of socialist morality. What standards of moral evaluation should socialism advocate? The author of this paper believes that adhering to collectivism is the fundamental standard of socialist morality; that collectivism is a necessary part of Maxism;that it has fertile soil to live in under socialist condition; and that it is the core of socialist moral principles and categories. It shows the conformity to the standard of socialist productivity. Adhering to collectivism is the premise for people to grow from one-sidedly developed personality to the fully developed personality. Under the new historical conditions, adhering to collectivism, we should first have a correct understanding the inevitablity of adhering collectivism under the condition of socialist market economy;secondly, have a correct understanding of the development and perfection of collectivism under the condition of socialist market economy;thirdly, implement collectivism in moral practice; and fourthly, give full scope to the theme of collectivism, firmly opposing individualist tendency in theory and in practice.
