Abstract

The effect of collaborative stress of drought and high temperature on the antioxidant defense system of maize seedlings' leaves and roots was investigated. The results showed that the collaborative stress of drought and high temperature stress enhanced significantly the activities of antioxidant defense enzymes such as superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),ascorbate peroxidase(APX) and glutathione reductase(GR) of maize seedlings' leaves and roots compared with drought or high temperature stress. But for leaves, high temperature stress increased the activities of these enzymes more than that of drought stress; For roots, drought stress increased the activities of these enzymes more than that of high temperature stress.
