Discussion of the correlation between seasons and semen quality

Objective To explore the effects of seasons on the semen quality by analysis semen volume,pH value,sperm concentration,viability and motility.Methods According to 《WHO laboratory manual for the examination of human semen and sperm-cervical mucus interaction》,whole the 1386 semen samples of the fertile men who hospitalized in our hospital were analyzed through CASA(WLJY9000,made by BEIJING WEILI Company).All the samples were divided into four groups:spring group(Mar.-May),summer group(Jun.-Aug.),autumn group(Sept.-Nov.)and winter group(Dec.-Feb.).Results Among the 1386 fertile men,the semen volume was(2.78±0.89)ml,the pH value was(7.46±0.15),the sperm concentration was(73.59±50.62)×106/ml,the sperm viability rate was(65.71±19.39)%,grade A sperm was(29.89+13.26)%and the grade A and B sperm was(48.47±15.64)%.The samples with normal sperm quality accounted for 66.67%(924/1386)in contrast with abnormal 33.33%(462/1386).Compared among the different groups,there was no significant difference in the semen parameters.Conclusion Different seasons would not affect semen quality.
