Abstract
Experiment of the effects of cutting frequency on yield and quality of four forage grasses, Pennisetum purpureum × P. glaucum, Pennisetum glaucum×P. purpureum, Pennisetum purpureum and Zea mays subsp. mexicana, showed that the stem/leaves ratio and crude fiber contents in forage grasses were increased with prolonged interval of cutting time, however, the contents of crude protein, crude ash, P and K in forage grasses were decreased, the ranking being Kcrude ashcrude proteinP.The change in crude fat, Ca and Mg contents in forage grasses were not obvious. Suitable cutting frequency could increase the yield and quality of forage grasses. A cutting interval of 50 to 55 days had higher yield and quality of forage grasses. There were a little increase in crude fiber and decrease in crude protein when the cutting interval was 57 days or more.
