Abstract
Traumatic brain injury may cause a series of complications such as inflammation, cerebral hematoma, brain swelling, brain edema, intracranial pressure, and other pathophysiological changes.Cerebral metabolism of glucose has been shown to be altered after head injury, and ketogenic diet(KD) has been proved to be neuroprotective in several models of traumatic brain injury. This altered dietary approach may have great therapeutic potential for head injury in both children and adults. The antioxidant neuroprotective effect of Nrf2 has also been confirmed in animal models of traumatic brain injury. However, the mechanism underlying the neuroprotection of KD and the correlation between KD and Nrf2 is not yet clear. This review focuses on the correlation of KD with Nrf2 in neuroprotection after traumatic brain injury.
