Effect of different cataract surgery on higher-order aberrations in pseudophakic eyes

Objective To review the higher-order aberrations of pseudophakic eyes after phacoemulsification and small incision extracapsular cataract extraction,and to evaluate the impact on the higher-order aberrations of pseudophakic eyes by the two different surgical methods.Methods Forty-four cases(44 eyes) of age-related cataract patients were randomly divided into two groups,namely Group A(extracapsular cataract extraction surgery group) and group B(phacoemulsification group),and set 22 normal phakic eyes in age-matched persons to be the control group.The higher-order aberrations of postoperative 1 week,1 month and 3 months in sugical groups and the control group were measured and analyzed respectively.Results During same periods of postoperative time,there is no significant differences in the higher-order aberrations between Group A and Group B(P0.05),and the differences of Rmsh between the control group and Group A、B apart were significant(P0.05).Conclusions The higher-order aberrations in pseudophakic eyes were higher than that in normal phakic eyes.There were no significant differences in the effect of different cataract surgery on higher-order aberrations in pseudophakic eyes.
