Abstract

In his paperA Poetic Critic Cannot Distort the Author's Intention with his Interpretation nor the Author's Attitude with his Understanding—A Critical Discussion on the View of Cao Zhi as the Chief Author of The Nineteen Ancient Poems,Mr. Yuan Jixi offered his doubt about Muzhai's related studies, denying the love between Cao Zhi and Queen of Zhen and the possibility that Cao Rui deleted some of the ancient poems in his re-edition of Cao Zhi's writings. According to historical classics, however, there were contradictory records as regards Cao Zhi and Queen of Zhen's punishment, and the atmosphere of current society and Cao Pi's conduct created the greenhouse for the love between Zhi and Zhen. Moreover,Rui's attitude to Zhi indicated that he had the motive of covering the love between Zhi and Zhen by deleting some of the poems in his re-edition of Zhi's collection of poems. Generally,Muzhai 's studies resulted from careful investigations and logical and wholesome analysis,by which he came to the related conclusions about The Nineteen Ancient Poems.
