Abstract

Objective To get to know the status of medical statistics teaching, explore the importance of reforming teaching methods of medical statistics and improve the teaching results. Methods In this survey,320 college students of different majors(clinical medicine, anesthiology, imaging, clinical laboratory and preventive medicine) were selected randomly and filled in the questionnaires by themselves. The questionnaire asked questions about theory teaching, experiment teaching and means of assessment. Results The study showed that the majority of students preferred case-based teaching to the traditional method.Almost all the students agreed that theory teaching should be combined with practice. And about half of the students thought that computer-assisted instruction was a good choice for statistics teaching, and hoped to be involved in data analysis and work out analysis plan or report. As for means of assessment,78% of the students thought that the current assessment could generally reflect their learning, and they should have cases and be asked to write statistical analysis reports. Conclusion The students have a basic understanding of the importance and practicability of statistics. We should improve our teaching quality through all kinds of methods such as case-based teaching,computer-assisted instruction and combination between theory and research.
