Abstract
Objective To investigate the association of the c.553GT polymorphism in the apolipoprotein A5(apo 3.5)gene with coronary heart disease(CHD)and serum lipids in the Han population in Jiangsu,China. Methods The apo A5 genotypes in 201 CHD patients and 222 control individuals were analyzed with the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism technique and the allele frequencies were calculate Serum lipid levels in the patients and controls were also measured. Results The frequencies of GG,GT,TT genotypes for the apo A5 gene c.553 GT polymorphism were 91.89%,8.11% and 0% in the controls and 82.58%,16.92% and 0.50%(x~2=9.257,P= 0.010)in the patients, and the T allele frequencies for the two groups were 4.05% and 8.96%(x~2=8.481, P=0.004),respectively.Serum triglyceride and total cholesterol concentrations of T allele carriers[(2.17 ±1.05)mmol/L and(5.16±0.95)mmol/L]were significantly higher than those of the individuals with GG genotype(t=3.194 and 3.022;P=0.002 and 0.003).The odds ratio(OR)for CHD in T allele carriers was 2.39(OR=2.39,95% CI 1.31-4.37,P=0.005),in comparison to G allele carriers. After adjustment for age, gender, body mass index, smoking status and presence of hypertension and diabetes, the difference still existed(OR=2.25,95% CI 1.18-4.30,P=0.014).Conclusions The apo A5 gene c.553GT site polymorphism is closely related to CHD and elevated serum triglyceride and total cholesterol.
