Effect of cavotricuspid isthmus ablation in catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation with or without typical atial flutter

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate cavotricuspid isthmus ablation as a role in recurrence of atial fibrillation ablation with or without typical atrial flutter.Method:One hundred thirteen patients undergoing ablation for atrial fibrillation were divided CTI group which cavotricuspid isthmus(CTI) ablation were performed,Non-CTI group which CTI ablation were not performed and compared with clinical features and operational details.Follow-up consisted of incidence of typical atrial flutter and recurrence of atrial fibrillation post-operation.Result:The patients of Non-CTI group had larger left atrium and more frequently persistent or permanent atrial fibrillation and additional linear left atrial ablation performed.Total radiofrequency application times were longer in CTI group.However,incidence of typical atrial flutter and recurrence of atrial fibrillation after ablation were no significant differences in two groups.Conclusion:Avoiding CTI ablation in patients of atrial fibrillation without typical atrial flutter does not only result in a higher incidence of typical atrial flutter and recurrence of atrial fibrillation after ablation,but also a shorter radiofrequency application times.
