Abstract

Objective: To Study the AgNOR staining in thyroid carcinoma. Methods: The values of kinds of AgNOR distribution were measured at random in 50 cases of paraffin embedded tissue from 40 cases of thyroid carcinoma and 10 cases of nodular goiter. Results: The mean number of AgNOR was (1.14±0.41) in normal thyroid tissue, (2.27±0.32) in nodular goiter,(3.15±1.03)in papillary carcinoma,(4.09±1.17)in follicular carcinoma,(4.51±1.31)in medullary carcinoma,(4.83±1.29)in anapestic carcinoma respectively. There were statistical difference between thyroid carcinoma and nodular goiter. The AgNOR parameter of thyroid carcinoma showed statistical difference with different degree of differentiation. Conclusion: AgNOR quantitative analysis can serve as important factors of determining benign and malignant thyroid tissue , assessing the malignant degree, predicting prognosis of thyroid carcinoma and instructing clinic therapy.
