Abstract
The grafting copolymerization of acrylic monomers with nylon was studied in order to obtain a new polymer material that has desirable properties of both acrylic resin and polyamide. The grafting copolymer may be useful as a component of printing inks, adhesives and leather coating compositions. In this article, methyl methacrylate was grafted onto an alcohol soluble nylon. The graft copolymerization was initiated by BPO in an ethanol solution, and the graft copolymer was characterized by the IR spectrum and X ray diffraction analysis. The effect of monomer and initiator concentrations on the graft efficiency was investigated. The results show that graft efficiency increases with the increase of monomer and/or initiator concentration, but the desired high graft efficiency has not been reached.
