Abstract
Spores of Cyrtomium nephrolepioides (Christ) Cop.were cultured in the humus soil of wild pro-habitat.The spore germination and the gametophyte development were observed by microscope. The results showed that spores are brown,dihedron-shape in equatorial view and elliptical in polar view.Spore germination is without rhizoid or of the Vittaria-type.Germ filament is formed by 3~8 cells.Prothallial plate lopsided former with many hairs, width of plate reached to 10 cells. The prothallus development is of Aspidium-type.Adult prothallus is cordate-thalloid with unicellular papillate hairs in the marginal, dorsal and ventral, rhizoids is usually bifurcated and enlarged on apex.Antheridium wall is consisted of 3 cells and curved archegonia are advanced systematical characteristics. But chloroplasts are original systematical characteristics in rhizoids. The result suggested that the spores slowly germinate, rhizoids enlarged on apex and hairs seems to show that are adaptive strategies of the gametophyte in limestone habitat.
