Abstract
Objective To study the status of blood flow in retinal central artery of patients with different degree of arteriostenosis in internal carotid artery, and to explore the relationship between arteriostenosis of internal carotid artery and status of blood flow in retinal central artery. Methods Fifty four patients were diagnosed as arteriostenosis of internal carotid artery by color Doppler imaging, including 28 cases of mild arteriostenosis(rate of stenosis in diameter 50%) and 26 cases of midrange or above stenosis(rate of stenosis in diameter ≥50%).In control group,40 patients(40 eyes) were proved without arteriostenosis of internal carotid artery by color Doppler imaging. The parameters of blood flow in retinal central artery and ophthalmic artery including shrink peak velocity(Vs),end diastolic velocity(Vd) and vascular resistance index(RI)were examined. Results Following the increase of severity in arteriostenosis of internal carotid artery, the parameters of blood flow in retinal central artery were changed. In patients with arteriostenosis in midrange or above in internal carotid artery, the dynamic parameters of blood flow in retinal central artery were significantly changed. However, there was no significant difference in parameters of blood flow in ophthalmic artery. Conclusion The arteriostenosis of internal carotid artery will affect the blood supply of retinal central artery.Color Doppler ultrasonography is able to identify the status of blood-supply in internal carotid artery and retinal central artery.
