Abstract

Objective:To observe the effects of enteral and parenteral nutrition support for mechanical ventilation patients in ICU.Methods:30 patients with mechanical ventilation in ICU were randomly assigned to two groups:one supported with enteral nutrition(16 cases) and another with parenteral nutrition(14 cases). All patients received the same energy and same nitrogen. The levels of serum albumin, hemoglobin were detected, the ventilation time, the thickness of skin fold at musculus triceps branchii and muscular perimeter of the arm were measured, and the nitrogen equilibrium was calculated. Results:The levels of serum albumin and hemoglobin and nitrogen equilibrium were higher in enteral groups(P0.05).No difference was observed in the thickness of skin fold at musculus triceps branchii and muscular perimeter of the arm between two group(P0.05),and mechanical ventilation time in the EN group time was shorter than that in parenteral nutrition groups(P0.05).Conclusion:For ICU patients, enteral nutrition has a better effect in nutrition support and can shorten the ventilation time.
