Semi-quantitative culture analysis of predominating flora of bacterial vaginosis

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the cultivation methods for vaginal flora in clinical practice with the aim to detect and analyze vaginal predominating flora from women with bacterial vaginosis(BV),so as to better guide clinical diagnosis and treatment.Method The vaginal fluid samples were taken from 32 BV patients,and cultivated on non-selective media using the semi-quantitative method under different air conditions.The results were compared so as to analyze patients′ vaginal predominating flora.Result The largest number of bacteria derived from anaerobic conditions,and there were a total of 15 predominating bacteria species characterized,with mainly 2(20/32) or sometimes 3(3/32) species per specimen.While there were 8 and 5 dominant bacteria species characterized in microaerobic and aerobic conditions,respectively.Conclusion The composition of BV vaginal predominating flora can be determined using non-selective,semi-quantitative and anaerobic culture techniques effectively and simply,so the method can be clinically used for detection,analysis and study of BV-related bacteria flora
