Abstract
The Human Microbiome Project(HMP),also known as the second human genome project,was initiated by the National Institutes of Health(NIH) in 2007.HMP was a 5-year project that was funded at $150 million and aimed to complete 900 bacterial genome sequences from human microbiome.The goals of the HMP are to demonstrate the feasibility of characterizing the human microbiome well enough to enable study of the variation in the human microbiome and its influence on disease,while providing both a standardized data resource and technological developments for the scientific community.
