Abstract

Objective To investigate prevalence of infantile iron-deficiency anemia. Methods A questionnaire investigation on clinical manifestations of anemia, hematological results and protocol records of the original diseases, and personal history, feeding history, family history and past history of 716 infants hospitalized over a period from July to September,2006 was conducted. Results The detectable rate of iron-deficiency anemia among total hospitalized infants in the same period was 16.34%(117/716),of which,88 infants suffered from mild anemia(75.21%),28 infants suffered from moderate anemia(23.93%) and 1 infant suffered from severe anemia(0.85%).The rate of iron-deficiency anemia in the 7~9 month old subgroup infants was higher, and that was associated with mis-feeding(χ2=10.7874,P0.005).ConclusionStrengthening maternal and infantile health, and giving guidance of scientific infant feeding to the mothers are the key to prevent and treat iron-deficiency anemia in infancy.
