Different doses of atorvastatin on serum lipids,big-endothelines,brain natriuretic peptide and pulmonary artery pressure in hyperlipidemic patients with chronic cor pulmonale

Abstract
Objective To assess the safety and effect on lipidlowering,big-endothelines(big-ET),brain natriuretic peptide(BNP),and pulmonary artery pressure(PAP) in hyperlipidemic patients with chronic cor pulmonale by different doses of atorvastatin.Methods 100 hyperlipidemic patients with chronic cor pulmonale were signed into group A and group B.Group A was given atorvastatin 10 mg,orally once a night,group B 20 mg orally,once a night.The total period of treatment was 24 weeks.Total cholesterol(TC),triglycerides(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),big-ET and BNP, PAP were determined in disorder lipidemic groups of pretreatment and treatment after 24 weeks.Results TC and LDL-C were decreased significantly(P0.05) in both groups after 24 weeks of treatment,but group B was more obvious.big-ET in group B was reduced from(0.69±0.26) pmol/L before treatment to(0.43±0.07) pmol/L after 24 weeks of treatment,also was lower significantly than that of group A(0.51±0.08) pmol/L(both P0.05).BNP in group B was reduced from(230.0±154.5) ng/L before treatment to(127.4±37.8) ng/L after 24 weeks of treatment which also was lower significantly than that of group A,(175.5±52.1) ng/L(both P0.05).PAP in group B was reduced from(53.87±17.85) mm Hg before treatment to (30.20±7.48) mm Hg after 24 weeks of treatment which also was lower significantly than that of group A,(41.74±8.39 mm Hg)(both P0.05).Side effects were similar between two groups.Conclusion Both atorvanstain doses significantly reduce lipids,BNP and PAP,also improve endothelial function.20 mg once a night is safe in better controling lipids,decreasing BNP,PAP and improving endothelial function in North China.
