Abstract

In 435, Lian, King of Koguryo, dispatched the first ambassador called An Dong to Northern Wei Dynasty. Tai-wu, Emperor of Northern Wei Dynasty, dispatched Li Ao, the first ambassador, to Koguryo. However, the War between Northern Wei Dynasty and Northern Yan Dynasty broke out so that Northern Wei Dynasty and Koguryo could not contact each other. After Northern Wei Dynasty destroyed Northern Yan Dynasty, Koguryo accepted Feng Hong, King of Northern Yan Dynasty, who was sent into exile, so that the relationship between Northern Wei Dynasty and Koguryo remained in a stalemate. Two years later, after Feng Hong was killed, the tension ended between Northern Wei Dynasty and Koguryo. Then the two developed friendly relations, which were maintained till the end of Northern Wei Dynasty.
